In this article I am going to show you how to check your computer's primary hard disk or your external hard drive for errors to fix some performance issues.

1. Click the Start button and then click Computer. A popup window will appear showing your hard disk C drive or your external USB hard drive if you have plugged into your computer.

2. Right click the drive that you want to check for errors and then click on Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab and then under Error checking, click Check now. (If you are prompted for an administrator password, just type the password to confirm). Another small popup window will appear with check disk options. I would suggest you check to select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. By doing that it will perform a thorough checks and automatically repair any problems found on your disk drive.

4. Click Start and a popup window will appear prompting you, "Do you want to check for hard disk errors the next time you start your computer?" Just click Schedule disk check.

5. Reboot your computer and disk check will automatically be performed on your computer.
